Pendo

This little girl is one of the sweetest children you could meet.  Cheerful and warm she consistently competed with the other little ones to be the child standing (or sitting upon) closest to me.  She is very quick to take your hand, offer a smile and start chatting.  As she ages she is becoming a charming, and very sassy, young lady.

Story of Pendo

DOB – June 10, 2006

Came under Tumaini care August, 2009

Little sister to Francis and Zawadi, Pendo has no parents and lived with her Bibi (grandmother) who is blind in one eye and handicapped in her left arm which makes it almost impossible for her to work and support her three grandchildren.  Discovering the conditions under which Pendo, her brothers, and grandmother lived caused my first tears in Tanzania.  They shared a two room mud and log hut with a dirt floor and a pieced together roof.

Pendo was one of our most malnourished children, second only to her brother Zawadi.  Her growth is stunted as a result of her malnourishment, but with our continued care and good nutrition she has countered most of the effects of her early starvation.  She is a lovely girl with a sweet yet sassy demeanor, and like most of the kids, she enjoys goofing off and playing pranks (like hiding your stuff and playing ‘hot and cold’).  She likes to colour and loves to dance and sing!
